Peace is bad business in Israel

Haaretz: Israel knows that peace just doesn’t pay

prisonSuccessive Israeli governments since 1993 certainly must have known what they were doing, being in no hurry to make peace with the Palestinians. As representatives of Israeli society, these governments understood that peace would involve serious damage to national interests.

Besides the collapse of the arms industry, I think what Israel fears most from making peace is the equitable distribution of water resources in an area that is already vulnerable to drought. Instead of land, the next ‘big thing’ between Israel and her Arab neighbors will most likely be water.

What do you think?
